Vive la Francophonie!
March was a month-long celebration of Francophonie at South Academy of International Languages, where we honored the rich culture and language of the French-speaking world. The festivities began with a lively Mardi Gras parade and dance. SAIL alumni from South Meck High School also paid a visit to teach the children how to play pétanque. We were thrilled to welcome twelve exchange students and two teachers from our partner school, Collège Jeanne d'Arc, in Limoges, France—Charlotte’s French sister city to spend two weeks with us. One of the month's highlights was our Poetry Slam competition, judged by Joël Gallegos, Honorary Consul of France to Central and Western North Carolina and UNC-Charlotte Associate Provost for International Programs; Shana Dols, former Media Center Assistant; and Annie Walker, retired French immersion teacher at SAIL.
Our French Immersion program shines as it draws talented faculty from four continents, bringing together an international community of teachers, students, and parents. The month’s celebration culminated in the spectacular French Culture Night, a vibrant event showcasing the beauty of French culture through student performances, French cuisine, art, and more. It was a truly unforgettable evening, celebrating the global love for the French language.
We are grateful to our PTSO, parent volunteers, and local vendors, including Accordionist Aleksei Chebeliuk , Alliance Francaise de Charlotte, Murriel's Creation, Orrman's Cheese Shop , Seasoned Provisions , The Underground Truffle, LLC , and Verdant Bread, for making this event a success.
